If there’s a box of Betamax tapes in your loft, we’ve got good news. REWIND by Motiontm now digitises Betamax, so those recordings can finally be watched, shared and kept safe again.

Betamax was Sony’s tape format, launched in the mid-1970s and loved by people who cared about picture quality, before VHS went on to win the battle for the living room. Plenty of families, enthusiasts and small businesses still have Betamax tapes tucked away. The trouble is that the machines needed to play them are long gone.

Why now?

Magnetic tape doesn’t last forever. Tapes can deteriorate with age, heat and damp, and working Betamax players are getting harder to find and keep running. The longer those recordings sit in a cupboard, the greater the risk of losing them for good.

What REWIND does with your Betamax tapes

We transfer your tapes to high-quality MP4 files that you can watch on your phone, tablet, TV or computer, and share with family wherever they are. You can receive your files by download or on a USB stick, and your original tapes are posted back to you with free UK return postage.

Betamax joins the rest of the REWIND family

Betamax sits alongside the other formats we already handle: VHS, VHS-C, MiniDV, Hi8, Video8 and Digital8, plus digitising from DVD. Got a mixed box of old tapes? Send them together and we’ll take care of the lot.

What’s on your tapes?

For most people it’s the irreplaceable stuff: weddings, birthdays, holidays, first steps, family gatherings and old home movies. For some it’s business footage that never made it to a modern format. Whatever’s on them, it deserves to be seen again.

Simple, honest pricing

The more tapes you send, the less each one costs. Prices are per tape, including VAT:

• 1–3 tapes: £12 each
• 4–9 tapes: £10 each
• 10–24 tapes: £8 each
• 25 or more: £6 each (best value)
